Food Guide to Savannah

Honestly, you could spend the whole day in Savannah just eating. I've compiled a list of some must-see (must-eat) destinations for your visit.

Breakfast

Waking up for breakfast can be one of the best ways to see a city and Savannah is no exception. Experience real Southern Charm at B. Matthews in Savannah's Historic District. They're dialed in on southern classics from Shrimp & Grits to Chicken & Biscuits. I don't normally  advocate for hotel breakfasts but I'll make an exception for 22 Square. Located in the Andaz Hotel, 22 Square is serving up the traditional farm-to-table experience with local sourced ingredients.

Lunch

The eclectic aesthetic at Soho South Café is truly enough reason to go there. But their food is damn good, too. They offer true American fare and strong cocktails. If down home southern cooking has you by the tastebuds, then head to Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room. Family owned since 1943, this no-frills diner offers southern staples with communal style dining. Prepare to stand in line, the rate is fixed and it's cash only!

Dinner

When I first came to Savannah, I was on a mission for BBQ. I got way more than I asked for at the classic southern B's Cracklin BBQ. Do yourself a favor and order the brisket and double mac & cheese. I'm just looking out for your emotional wellbeing, here. If you're feelin' fancy, try Olde Pink House. A meal here will cost you a pretty penny but that's the price you pay for the "best food in Savannah" while dining in a colonial mansion, am I right? Make sure you reserve a seat ahead of time.

Drinking

Be aware of Savannah's open container laws. In the areas from River Street to Jones Street, you can openly carry a 16 ounce plastic container of liquor. Many restaurants offer cocktails-to-go (my new favorite phrase).  An afternoon stroll by the river with a cocktail in hand is just what the doctor ordered.

Safe travels,
